Although we want you to pass your driving test as quickly as possible, we will not rush you. We want all of our students to become confident road users and experienced drivers – there is no point rushing you through driving lessons and a test if after it you do not feel confident enough or have enough knowledge to be behind the wheel.

Learning to drive is a scary but fun thing to do and once you’ve passed your test, you will be pleased of the freedom that it gives you. Many people often just go out driving, on their own, once they’ve passed their test – even if they have no where to go. It’s just a satisfying thing to do, driving on your own. That first trip is a little nerve racking and it could be the first time, if you haven’t had enough lessons, that you realise that there are somethings that you do not know about driving.
We make sure that we provide thorough lessons starting at the very basics. During your first lesson, you will usually be driven to a quiet road or cul-de-sac where there won’t be much traffic. This allows you to take the driver’s seat and move off in the car. If you are having your driving lessons in a manual car, then the first step will be getting familiar with the gears. This is always difficult at first because of the precise movements required by your feet to control the clutch. We do not use our feet for precise movements very much so this can be difficult at first however you will soon get the hang of it.
You will then move off and start learning other vital techniques such as changing up through the gears, steering and braking.
As your lessons progress we will ensure that you get lots of practice on dual carriageways, through busy streets in the town and manoeuvres. The basics such as reverse parking, reversing around corners and three-point turns are manoeuvres that you will not be required to do that regularly when you are driving but it is vital that you can do them (and you will be tested on them in your actual driving test).

STARTING YOUR DRIVING LESSONS
The first thing that we should say is that if you have any questions about learning to drive, insurance, the theory test or how to get started, please give us a call. We’ve been teaching students how to drive for years. We’ve had hundreds of students pass with us and it’s very rare that we come across a situation or question that we have not had in the past. Our team are extremely friendly and patient, and are happy to help.
People are often quite nervous during the build up to the first driving lesson. That expected so our instructors will probably pick you up and drive to a quite road then let you take control of the car. The first steps are adjusting the seat and mirrors so that you are comfortable and can see everything around you.
You are then in control and the instructor will help you pull away in first gear and show you how to steer. The basic lessons that you will start off with in this first journey will last you a lifetime. Things like listening out for the engine noise so that you will know when to change gear are fundamentals that will give you the knowledge and confidence to drive other cars, not just the instructor’s vehicle.
As you progress in your lessons your driving instructor will take you on longer journeys on various roads to help you build confidence and practise going around roundabouts, turning corners and changing lanes on dual carriageways. With everything in life, we cannot teach you what to do in every possible situation but we can provide you with fundamental knowledge, things to be aware of and examples of how to react in certain situations. The idea is to give you the knowledge and confidence to pass your test then go on to be a careful and happy driver.
